I’m hanging at BigOmaha, listening to an amazing lineup of speakers. From Jason Fried to GaryVee, the BigOmaha team totally out did itself in bringing top notch talent to the MidWest. I drove up from Kansas City along with 20 others to check out the Omaha Tech scene….I’m totally impressed.
Last Night, the party kicked off with awesome vegan treats and brew at Secret Penguin and @WhatCheer. WhatCheer is behind http://www.iliveinomaha.com and Secret Penguin develops some pretty interesting youth branding building off their expertise in youth skateboard culture.
Shortly after stuffing myself with tech talk, beer and vegan eats, the party moved to SlowDown, a trendy Indy venue next door where GaryVee recorded a live video broadcast of his Wine Library TV. The dude is hilarious.

Again, kudos to the BigOmaha Team! My cheer to you:
I woke up this morning to find that the kansas city star and adperfect wanted 108.27 three times over….after the whole fiasco last night (post below). In adperfect’s defense, I did call them this morning. They said these are pending transactions, which wouldn’t go through….we’ll see in 4 hours.
I ended up posting to other websites. I’ll be interested to see if @kcstar actually publishes my classified ad or not. I’m also interested to see if I actually get an email from either business after sending one to them.
So, I need to put my dog up for adoption. I love her, but with my travel schedule, she just needs a better home. This post is actually about the dying newspaper industry. Today, I tried to save it by placing an ad through the Kansas City Star website for 14 days in their classifieds section. Total cost, $108. Now, that would buy me at least 30 days of top placement on google adwords…maybe three months! But, I figured, on impulse, that the Star would be a good place to advertise.
Fail! So, I sent five tweets to their accounts thinking someone would be manning the @kcstar or @kansascitystar account….perhaps some one at the KC Star is paying attention to their customer base on the web…..FAIL again. No one. I called, nada! Please, let me give you $108! Video:
I just upgraded from Grandcentral to Google Voice….pretty slick. It imported all 2000+ of my contacts with numbers….not bad. Check out the widget, I’m thinking about putting this on our sales pages:
@derek and I took a trip at 8am this morning to Sprint World Headquarters to chat about bringing a @predevcamp to Kansas City for the launch of the Palm Pre (no, we dont know the launch date, we didnt get to play with the phone and we dont have any internal secrets about it…move along if you’re fishing!) and about linking up dotnext members with Sprint internal teams to build some cool apps on their budding new application developer programs (again, no secrets to tell). Check out the video:
PreDevcamp has 65 cities signed up and Kansas City will be on that list…sign up for the Kansas City launch (which is shaping to be at Sprint, details to come on the KC PreDev Site). Other fun events coming to Kansas City include
I’ve been getting into KIVA quite a lot lately. Being a fan of micro-lending already, this website gives me even more power to change the world, $1 at a time.
I was always annoyed at those classroom/college/etc campaigns to save some sort of country. It always felt fishy, giving money to some white person who drives a benz who ‘champions’ overseas causes. It just felt dirty to me as a kid.
Kiva is really cool, because you can loan directly to entrepeneurs over seas, rather than through some agency who gives it to another agency who gives…etc etc. In increments of $25, I’m building up a social change fund to lend to Middle East business people…I’m concentrating on the Middle East b/c we’ve (Americans) really screwed that area up.
51 companies, 3 minute pitches, networking, great chatter and fantastic contacts. Atlanta has it going on! Joel Smith and I had the total privilege of attending #StartupRiot (http://www.startupriot.com) February 19 at the twelve hotel hotspot at Atlantic Station. Unlike most coder-orientated events (the awkward stare downs and pizza, yes, even in the morning), it started off with great conversation, warm reception and amazing energy. continue reading »
